Hurricane Isaias: IRS Announces Tax Relief for Florida & Alabama

10/15/2026

As our communities recover from Hurricane Isaias, the IRS has announced relief that gives eligible individuals and businesses in parts of Florida and Alabama additional time for certain federal tax filings and payments.

Who qualifies?

Individuals and businesses in 27 Florida counties, including Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay, now have until Feb. 8, 2027, to file returns and pay taxes that otherwise were due on or after Oct. 9, while taxpayers in 40 Alabama counties have until Feb. 4, 2027, to meet filing and payment obligations that fell due on or after Oct. 7.

What deadlines have changed?

The relief periods differ by state and apply to qualifying federal filing and payment obligations*:

  • Florida: Revised deadline is February 8, 2027.
  • Alabama: Revised deadline is February 4, 2027, and February 7, 2027 for individuals with valid extensions.

*Exceptions may apply.

Important Considerations

  • Extended returns: Relief includes certain returns with valid filing extensions. However, payments for 2025 individual returns originally due April 15, 2026, are not covered.
  • Payroll deposits: Payroll deposits have separate rules, so contact your payroll provider to understand your options.
  • Automatic relief: The IRS generally applies relief automatically to taxpayers with an address of record in covered areas. Taxpayers elsewhere whose necessary records are in affected areas may also qualify but may need to request relief.
